Some years ask more of you than others. This was one of those years for Seattle, and for our team. Soccer fans arrived from around the world for match days. Graduates crossed the stage at the University of Washington. A thousand guests filled Pike Place Market for a night of food and celebration. Through all of it, a few lessons kept showing up.
Lesson one: preparation is a form of hospitality
The smoothest events this year were the ones where everyone knew the plan before they arrived. Clear briefings, early call times, and a walk through of the space let our team spend the event focused on guests instead of figuring out where things go. On the biggest days, the work done the week before mattered as much as the work done on site.
Lesson two: calm is contagious
On match days, crowds were big, energy was high, and timelines were tight. Working alongside our catering partners, we saw how much a calm lead changes a room. When the person in charge stays steady, the whole team does too, and guests feel it.
Lesson three: every guest is someone's big day
At UW Commencement in June and Convocation in September, we served families who had waited years for that moment. It was a reminder that even at an event with thousands of people, each guest is having their own experience. A warm greeting, a quick answer, and a little patience go a long way.
Lesson four: big events are built on small details
At Sip and Savor, the Día de Muertos celebration at Pike Place Market, about a thousand guests moved through a historic space full of vendors, music, and color. Events like that run on small things done well: stations kept full, walkways kept clear, and questions answered with a smile. Guests rarely notice those details when they are handled. They always notice when they are not.
Lesson five: community is the point
Some of our proudest nights this year supported causes bigger than the event itself, like the Grit City Gala in Tacoma benefiting the Tacoma Farmers Market. Showing up for our community, big night or ordinary Tuesday, is what keeps this work meaningful. We left those nights with new friends, new partners, and a deeper love for the region we serve.
Lesson six: the right people make the plan work
A great plan only works when the people carrying it out care. This year we watched our team step up again and again: arriving early, staying late, covering for each other, and treating every guest like a guest in their own home. That spirit is what clients remember, and it is what we hire for.
Looking ahead
We believe hospitality is a craft. This year sharpened ours. We are grateful to every client, partner, and team member who trusted us with their events, and we are excited for what comes next.
